I f that is your concern, I actually can recommend a Mac Mini.
I use it in asimilar setting (I actually run more on it than what you
are) and it performs great.

used distro: Debian for PPC

The new Mac Minis are Intel, but you might even look into buying a used
one. A new one starts at $600 and that might be a bit too much for this
task. But a ppc you might be able to get for around $200, just shop around.

I like the little mac mini, especially because it is small and quiet.
Still it is quite powerful for such a small package.
And it comes with a gigabit ethernet adapter.
