I had started working on doing a survey of the space about a year ago,
with the thought of developing my own solution... If you look at the
"Tasks" section there is a list of projects in the space... (That I
found). From my initial research it seemed that Puppet, which you are
using, was the closest to what I was looking for. Since your needs may
differ from mine at that time, I would take a look at some of the
other options as well. (Personally I am still using custom scripting.)
