One thing I'd suggest is using the xterm found in the Mac's X server, and
seeing
how well the Solaris terminals handle that.  I think you should get much
better
results than using Terminal.app.

I'm sure you know this but you can find X11 in
"/Applications/Utilities/X11.app"
