I'm not that familiar with MU, but I don't think it's going to do either 
of those things.  I'm pretty sure what it does do is save disk space and 
spares you from maintaining 20-30 copies of Wordpress. (the last issue 
really isn't an issue anyway, I've automated that whole process)

Although people use it that way, I really don't consider WordPress a 
CMS, and I've been running it since it was called b2.  It's a good blog 
tool though.
