One place I went into did just that. Their
backup software ran the backups at 0100 and
a 'tape database' backup to the same drives
at 0300 so they'd have time to replace the
tapes.
Problem is that their daily backups started
running over 2 hrs and were aborted every night
for the tape database backup. Net result was
a 6+ month period with no data backups.
So... with that much data you'll probably end
up with 2 or 4 tapes and cartrige holders (I'd
recommend AIT's for both speed, density, and
tape longevity) and one separate device reserved
for the tape's database backup.
