It's also why upstanding LUG members such as on this list find it 
increasingly difficult to operate a mail server at home on their 
consumer Internet service.  Filtering port 25 to only reach the ISP's 
own mail server is today done to contain the damage done by those 
botnets and the Typhoid Mary Sympathizer Microsoft OSes that make them 
viable.
