I'm not sure what I paid for my chair back in June, but $140 rings a 
bell.  (That would make it the most expensive chair I've bought) Staples 
seems to have something on clearance almost every time I've been in there.

As for what you'll spend on your chair, the limit should probably be 
based in part on how much time you spend in your chair.  I kept that in 
mind when I decided not to get a $40 chair this time, since my desk 
chair is the only piece of furniture I sit on in my apartment.
