Your kernels idea of what should be in the disks' metadata was not in
sync with what was encountered on the disk. That caused the kernel to
panic (the preferred reaction to continuing to write to a disk in an
unknown state).
The specific whys will require you knowing a lot more than you've
shared about the condition of your hard disk, the caching, and the
stability of the reiserfs version you're using.
If you're 100% sure that there are no hardware problems then you
should ask the reiser developers.
