Sure, once you've installed the *correct* bloated pig of a JVM, *and*
configured your environment so your app finds the right JVM (out of
the handful of JVMs which get autoinstalled onto a typical desktop
machine during its life), *then* you stand a good chance of running
your java app.

The app in question requires I use Java 1.5, so I have to downgrade from
Mepis' default Java.

Their excuse is that some of their features wouldnt work.

I used it with Java 1.6 and didnt notice any difference.

Sorry but this is so typical of Java where everything runs great, the
sun is shining
then BAM!!  Something happens, literally.  Tell the application vendor
and they're
working on it for weeks while the user puts up with intermittent
freezups, slowdowns
and failures.

Very often the fix is 'more memory'.
