Subject: [free-culture] OLPC Jam Is Tomorrow!

  Hi Everyone,
So our OLPC Jam is Tomorrow at 1pm. A couple of bits of information:

  * If you are non-NYU and haven't RSVP'd, please do it now. Go here:

  http://wiki.freeculture.org/NYU_OLPC_Jam_Session

And select "edit" and add your name to the list. It'd be preferable if you
could do it before 5pm today, but tomorrow at noon is the final cutoff time.

  * If you'd like to experiment with replacing the operating system (or new
versions of Sugar) on your OLPC you'll need a developer key. My sources tell
me that it takes a bit of time (around a day) to get one, so hopefully if
you apply now, you should get it in time tomorrow. Here is information on
how to request a developer key:

  http://wiki.freeculture.org/NYU_OLPC_Jam_Session

  * We'll be splitting the session into roughly two groups: one for those who
own an OLPC and are interested in modifying beyond its current capacities.
This includes learning how to install new fonts, turning off the frame, and
installing new activities and operating systems (for those with dev keys.)
If you plan to be part of this group it would good if you could bring a
1-2gb SD card and/or USB jump drive.

  * The other group will be working on finding and building content for the
OLPC. This will include media research and work on the OLPC
  wiki<http://wiki.laptop.org/go/>.
We'll have some folk from OLPC attending who can help with this. You should
bring a laptop if you're intending on being part of this group.

  * We may not have enough space in our originally chosen room. This means
we'll be picking a slightly larger room, on the same floor. We'll leave a
note on the door if this is the case, but ITP is small enough that you'll be
  able to find it.

  * NYU's Wireless network requires a guest login to work. We're currently
writing a shell script that will connect your OLPC so you can have net
access. We'll also have written instructions printed out and available.

  * Here's the info again:

  NYU OLPC Jam Session*

  See you then!
