[nylug-talk] OT: RAM compatibility

Hello ladies!

So a friend of mine has a computer that needs PC2100 RAM.  Googling and 
using Crucial's "Memory Selector" (TM)(R)(SM)(ETC) suggested that PC2700 
RAM was backwards compatible with PC2100, and that it would work fine.

So earlier yesterday we got PC2700 RAM that matched the technical details 
of her existing RAM (Unbuffered, non-ecc, CL 2.5), popped it into her 
computer ...... and her computer didn't show the RAM any love at all.  It 
just beeped on power up.

So the question is ... is it possible the computer simply doesn't like the 
faster RAM ? Or is non-compatibility not possible, and its something 
else ?
