I never liked the idea of .NET or Mono in the sense that I want to know,
for sure, what code is being run on my local box, and I want a local copy
that I have the ability to audit. I want my OS and my applications local,
period; that's just my personal preference.

Others like using Google, Yahoo, etc applications where eveything they
write and have is online so that it's accessible from anywhere from a
computer that has a connection and a browser.

.NET and Mono, if I understand them correctly, seems to me to each be a
two-headed stepchild that's in-between "local" and "online" and combining the
drawbacks of both, without having the features of both. I'm distrusting of
them and try to avoid them.
However, I have little to no experience using Mono and zero experience
developing in either it or .NET, so my opinion in this case may be woefully
ignorant. Your milage may vary.
