Hello all -
The nylug-jobs board is under renovations, so forgive me for posting
here. This post is for 2 positions, one full time one part time, for
help desk/ junior system admin (Sage Level I). It is a good entry
level position at a company in which OSS is used as much as is
possible. We have Win2k desktops but all of the servers are Debian or
RedHat.
The part time position is ideal for students, and the company it 2
subway stops and 2 blocks from West 4th.
thanks
Michael

Title: 2 positions - Help Desk Technician (part time and fulltime) - Hoboken
Description: Shipco Transport, a leading international cargo
transportation company, has an immediate opening for a Help Desk
Technician at our corporate head quarters in Hoboken, NJ USA.
Reporting to the Help Desk Supervisor, the Help Desk Technician is
responsible for maintaining the high service level of our IT help
desk, serving both our own users, but also customers and vendors.
Currently, the help desk consists of two full time technicians and a
systems administrator. You will be exposed to many challenges and
technologies ranging from pc issues to network problems to large
E-commerce systems. We offer a positive and friendly atmosphere with
opportunities for advancement and personal growth. The full time
position (only) has benefits. We offer medical, dental, life and
vision insurance. We also offer a 401(k) plan and a flexible benefits
plan (FBA). Please submit your resume accompanied by a cover letter,
clearly referencing the job title of "Help Desk Technician (pt or ft)-
Hoboken", to hr at shipco.com.
Required Skills: Requirements: At least 1-2 years of IT field
experience. Solid understanding of Microsoft Windows (2000/XP) Basic
networking skills, TCP/IP. Good organizational & interpersonal skills
and a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are the
norm. Customer service skills. Experience with Unix/Linux and possibly
other *nix flavors.
Location:
Hoboken, NJ
- 2 blocks from the PATH in Hoboken. The PATH is a subway system that
pretty much mirrors (what used to be) the BDF&Q in Manhattan from 33rd
Street to W4th. Then it takes a turn to the west and Hoboken is the
next stop. Also there is service from WTC. Very convenient from the
city. The part time position is good for a student or someone looking
to get tangible Linux experience under their belt. We are a Linux
shop, server-wise, and are seriously looking into Linux desktops. At
the moment our desktop environment is Win2k - so candidates must be
able to do basic troubleshooting on that platform.
