Yeah, I'm referring to the Adv Server management software.

I remember it being binary only and built for specific distros, which sucks 
when you want to use something like debian.  Secondly, being a packager I 
have a general rule of never trusting RPMs provided by commercial vendors.  I 
have yet to see this rule be proven wrong.  I remember looking at the 
scriptlets that are run pre-install, post-install, etc and I remember being 
fairly disgusted.  Its been ages so i don't remember much but I will ALWAYS 
remember seeing the command

rm -rf /opt/compaq

in the post-uninstall scriptlet.  Not only does this assume that you have 
nothing else installed by compaq, but it also shows a gross lack of 
understanding about what a package management system does in the first place.  
I remember being so disgusted I recreated the RPM to something not offensive.

Maybe they've fixed this, maybe they haven't.  But my rule still stands:  
Never trust commercial RPMs (or any package if you can help it.)

And I for one do not believe that basic server management functionality such 
as fan speed control should be only manageable via software.
