Right on. Therea are things that governments do better than capitalism. 
Imagine if our telcos had built the federal highway system?

Sometimes the invisible hand doesn't work except to smack the consumer 
around. Unrestricted capitalism is not always the answer, Alex :) In our 
case, we've gotten the highest phone bills, the least choice, and total 
crap customer service.

Lastly, I'd add that one of the carriers that adheres to "sucky" GSM has 
one of the highest J.D. Powers' ratings (T-Mobile), and one of the CDMA 
carriers has the lowest (Sprint). Hmm.
