user doesn't have to know ANYTHING about the underlining hardware whether a
disk partition is mounted from scsi, IDA, RAid for a network drive from
China.  They all look like the seemless file system that they should.

For what its worth, the BSD slicing system perplees me.  The Linux
primary partition system is something inherited for some twisted reason
from DOS.
