While not a sidebar, the "caption" line for a screen can show the names of
open windows (which you then have to navigate via C-n).

Secondly with screens all new windows are run under the parent screen

As mentioned by someone else, I installed and tried twin which can fork gnu
screens and text-mouses.  Quite interesting!

This way if text-wm crashed, the screens probably won't die and my apps will
