[nylug-talk] CUPS problem

Good afternoon,
  Today I tried to delete old messages from the mail application I use
(Thunderbird). I have not had problems with that before. To my horror, it
popped up the Print dialog box (could have accidentally clicked Print
instead of Delete from the context menu). Although I clicked Cancel, it
commenced to print several messages on my network printer. I finally
cleared out the cache after having shut down the 'puter and the printer and
let the queue bleed out.
      However now when I go into Yast (am running SUSE 9.2), it detects my
printer but says there is an error in the CUPS client when I try to print
any kind of test (either non-photo or text). The print dialog box in Open
Office (2.0) and Thunderbird both show "default", instead of the proper
printer, as they did before all this happened. I sent another email message
out and found that the Cancel button is instead working as the Print button;
  it shows the Preparing .... dialog box that does has the Cancel button
grayed out.
     Am not sure whether the best course for me is to delete the printer and
reinstall it, since the problem seems to be with CUPS and not the network
connection with the printer. Please advise, thanks. F. Barth
