Yes, in order to be recognized as someone people look to for advice, I've
found it's extremely valuable to be able to talk to different perspectives
and platforms. It's always a good thing to know both Linux and Windows.
Heck, at home I run Windows, Linux, BSD, and even have a couple Solaris
partitions. VMWare and Xen make it extremely economical these days.
I would highly recommend knowing the Microsoft platform technologies - it
can make you a better Linux professional. You will also come to appreciate
some of the nuances of Linux and the value they offer (i.e. config files)
and as you learn more about Microsoft you'll probably like some of their
technologies (i.e. .NET integration, CLR). Either way, a business that you
eventually work for cares that you can handle their needs and there are
very very few Linux-only shops out there.
