.org was more like the "miscellaneous" TLD than the NFP
TLD, just like .com was originally intended to house commercial
entities. .com, .net and .org have been generic TLDs for a long time.
The only TLD I actively avoid is .biz . Dot-biz is the sewer of the
Internet, and anyone reputable in there is either so attached to the
second-level domain name that they've blinded themselves to the company
they're keeping, or are too green to know where they landed.[*] It even
sounds cheesy. Dot-biz. Blech.

As many on here will tell you, you get what you pay for. I don't think
paying more than $50 a month is outrageous without knowing what you're
getting for more than $50 a month.

There are several people on this list who dabble in various parts of the
public hosting business. It's always good to keep business in the
family. I know at least one of them is racking a few of our local user
group's servers gratis. It's good to support businesses that support
you back.

Aside from what you're getting at here, someone might find themselves
hosting at a place that's only dabbling in Linux because their CEO heard
it's all the rage with the kids these days.
