I honestly don't know what the state of affairs is at LDP lately, but it
has been notoriously difficult to contribute to in the past, focusing
more on form than content, and as a result, often seemed to contain more
out of date content than useful material.  That may have changed.  But
the appeal of a site like this is that it's got a low bar to entry, and
it's more a creature of the present with its wikis and blogs, than TLDP,
which is/was all about the Docbook and clearly thinks much farther into
the future.

The primary downsides to such a site are the same as the upside.  Low
bar of entry to participate, and immediate publication.   I could
probably get a blog over there and fill it and the wiki full of crap
pretty quickly.  Not crap crap that someone would delete, just piles of
words of dubious value.  Not unlike this message right here. ;)
