Just to say, this is specifically what "pure" consultants are for.  
Recommendations based on experience with equipment vs. equipment they get 
paid more to sell, and without immediately saying things like "Cisco!" - 
because we all hate it when vendors decide to orient their equipment 
differently for cooling purposes, and screwing up rack layouts in the 
process.  As well as having someone to look to/blame when its not up to 
snuff/exceeds your expectations.
