Well, I'm glad something gave way in your situation, either way.

They turn on the microphones for us.  I think if someone who knows what
they're doing (ie, not me) talks to them, we could plug something in to
their sound system.

I didn't buy it for this purpose, I already had it.  If it can be
useful, that's great, but if we need something else, the first step is
for someone to tell me what we need to acquire/borrow.
