 Yeah i've seen them readily assembled for like $15-$20, but I already
have several MAXIM 233A rs232 chips.. and ive assembled my board.  I
just need some header pin connectors.  Total cost thus far is well under $5.


As far as samples go, im all for it.  I mean i got samples from MAXIM
for a surface mount and a dip package because I wasnt sure what form
factor I was going to use.  Now in the future.. i have "references" on
hand to better choose.  I mean.. its not about the money when you are
getting sample IC's .. since they are less than $1 (for these rs232's at
least) .. its more about getting the opportunity to be absolutely sure
about what you want.
