No info on the Buffalo - but if "cheap" is what you're looking for, take 
a look as NASlite+ by serverelements.com.    This $24 USD facility turns 
an old PC with as much disk as you wish to add into a great performing 
NAS.  It supports concurrently, NFS, SMB, FTP, as well as other access 
and performs as well as a couple of commercial NAS's I've installed at 
client locations.

Just my $.02 worth.
