It is my understanding that NYLUG is somewhat unusual in its acceptance
of job recruiters and positions offered by recruiters. (though less
unusual since the bubble burst) It has always been our policy to
promote full employment in our community, and so long as they behave,
accept positions put forward by recruiters.
Lately however, we seem to be having a lot of trouble. I'm getting
inappropriate offers from recruiters, and spammed by them on a pretty
regular basis. We had three recruiters watching Jack doodling in GIMP
for a half hour just to make a 2 minute pitch at our meeting a few
months ago. Any debate about whether it's an employer's or an
employee's market should be over. There's a lot more jobs than there
are people to fill them. As a result, the recruiters are getting
desperate and their behavior is becoming unacceptable. I'm not sure who
it's going to be or why, but I'm pretty sure that we'll be seeing our
first banning from the jobs system very soon now.
We'd like to hear what your thoughts are about NYLUG-Jobs, and our
accepting jobs from recruiters. We can discuss it here on the mailing
list, or you can contact us at info at nylug.org
