[nylug-talk] clearing a stuck postfix message

Hello all,
Occaisionally a message gets stuck in our /var/spool/mail/ .
I go in through vi and delete the stuck message up to the next message's
header.
It has worked well up to this point. I go in to check it using pine and I
can see messages populating the inbox.
Tonight - however it hasn't helped and what should be dozens of messages is
clumped into one monolithic file. In pine it shoes up as one read only
message.
This makes me think I have disturbed the permissions on the file but when I
check the other files in /var/spool/mail they have a similar permissions.
2 questions:
Is this a bad way to handle stuck messages in /var/spool/mail?
Is there a way of restoring the file so pine (and thunderbird) can read it
as discrete messages and not one big file?
Thank you
Michael
