Hi folks,
one of the obstacles to getting free software on computers is support.
Getting a pc from dell with freedos is not useful, but a first step. If
you have a problem, vendors say 'you NEED winblows or we can not support
you'. They need some way to test your problem with something that they
have tested and can use to compare results. This is now winblows only.
Folks say they can fudge past level 1 support by giving some bs but that
is not a solution. If there was a 'support cd' of some composition that
vendors could create a spec for that would be free, would this be
possible to get vendors to rally around? Would freedos do this? would
some special version of winblows? If you can get bios update that would
be included on a floppy that would work with freedos or a bootable cd
with freedos that had a bios update, would this be easy to make and get
vendors to rally around?
thoughts, suggestions, etc.
