All group meetings, probably everywhere, but especially in New York City
are scheduled first around the availability of meeting space. In the
case of the workshop, it meets at the NY Public Library because that's
the one place we found space, and it meets on Tuesday evenings because
that's when we're able to meet there. The library closes promptly at
8pm, which also means that unlike our general meetings, workshops begin
and end pretty much when we say they will.

The other thing that comes into play after space is the needs of the
people who actually make things happen. In the case of the workshop,
that's Peter and Mark.

Unfortunately there's no time that works for everyone, and long
experience with NYLUG shows pretty conclusively that the most important
thing about getting people to show up is to be consistent. NYLUG's best
attendance was back when you didn't have to ask when the meeting was,
because it was always the third Wednesday of the month. Inconsistency
depresses attendance and causes a lot of mail to get addressed to me
personally asking about meetings. For anyone reading this, those should
go to info at nylug.org, which is an alias for a lot of people who can help
and answer questions, and not to me personally, because if it has to
wait for me to see it, you may not get an answer in time for it to be
useful.
