# Title: Sr. Linux Admin, Contract or Direct Hire

# Salary: $100,000+

# Description: The Linux System Administrator supports the Linux
software systems platforms. The primary objective of this position is
to assure reliable and predictable performance of all mission critical
systems in support of corporate banking and finance operations. The
corporate computing resources include high reliability, networked,
database servers in a distributed Linux environment utilizing storage
available through locally attached and network available disk storage.

  Typical Duties:
  * Design, configure and tune high availability systems
  * Identify and resolve capacity, contention, and resource deficiencies
    to support corporate processing requirements
  * Provide second/third level Linux software support to the Linux
developer groups during normal working hours.

  * Roll out new applications and upgrades developed by the internal
    development organizations.
  * Support third party applications products used in support of
    corporate mission critical systems.

# Required Skills: For this environment, the successful applicant will
have solid scripting experience. In some ways, this position resembles
that of an automation engineer more than that of a typical system
  administrator.

The environment relies on shell scripting, perl, Ruby, and Python. The
candidate must be familiar with regular expressions, calling common
Linux/Unix utilities, and using libraries of functionality. From a
source and version control perspective, the candidate should have
experience in either command line cvs or subversion.

The environment relies heavily on open sourced projects and tools such
as Linux (PPC and x86), Apache, Jakarta/Tomcat, JBoss, Nagios, and
others. Experience with Java and reading Log4J logs is a definite
plus. This person should also be familiar with SQL and SQL performance
to be able to provide feedback to the Development and DBA groups. We
  are a DB2 shop.

Required networking skills include a solid grasp of IP networking from
the physical layer through the network layer as well as the main
concepts associated with ICMP, TCP, and UDP and some of the standard
protocols that are built upon those fundamentals. The successful
applicant will have a solid understanding of Linux networking
including iptables firewalling, routing, and kernel parameter setting
  and tuning.

Working experience with Cisco networking equipment (routers, switches,
and firewalls) is assumed. Experience with provisioning and supporting
WAN circuits is necessary. Experience with establishing, debugging,
documenting and supporting IPSEC VPNs is required.

The technical environment is composed of approximately 350 PPC and x86
blade servers at two datacenters, two back office environments in New
York and Atlanta, and secondary support for two European datacenters.
We also support some Windows Terminal Servers, their associated
utilities and applications, and users that connect to the terminal
  servers via remote desktop clients.

The Production and UAT environments are 24X7X365 and good
communications skills and documentation skills are vital for this job.
  We like detailed documentation.
