It's normally nmbd that causes the problems..

these are good for getting some more information back from Samba.  
It's difficult to pinpoint a bug or fault without some reference to
something definite.  Which version of Samba is it ?

Can be very frustrating to trouble shoot such a complex piece of
software :)
