         I reduced it to 5... still doesn't work.  My ulimit is set
         to unlimited.

         I watched my resources via top; nothing out of the ordinary.
         Dig seemed to use very little resources actually.  I get all
         the files created in that directory.  The instances of dig come
         up and go away as expected.  But some of the files are 0 bytes
         and the script just hangs.

         Quite odd.

         Perhaps there's some weird concurrency interaction with dig
         and the DNS server?
