I was actually told this ("Everyone should have just been happy with
/etc/rc.") by the first kid I hired to help me out with some admin tasks
many moons ago.  He was at the time, a Slackware user, and not a fan of
that new-fangled stuff, and thought rc.local should be enough for
(everything and) everyone.
