# Description: Living Independently Group Inc., a mid-stage startup in
New York City, seeks an addition to its small tech team. We make a
system designed to help family members monitor the health of a senior
citizen living alone, through an inexpensive system of motion sensors.
The responsibilities for the position include:
* Directing the Managed Hosting provider operating our LAMP servers.
Ensure/monitor reliability and performance. (So no hardware handling
necessary.)
* Administering servers (accounts, backup, maintenance, networking,
etc.), including mail server. (No kernel hacking necessary.)
* Doing shell scripting appropriate to automate repeated functions.
* Responding to server outage events (carry pager)
* Database Administration (PostgreSQL)
* manage schema changes
* ensure snapshots and pruning procedures are operational
* identify performance issues, suggest and implement improvements
* Test applications written by others.
* Light web coding as time allows (Django or similar). (Not required.)

Skills required:
* Systems administration, shell scripting.
* Communication: with technical and non-technical staff; oral and
written.
* Able to manage/adjust balance between velocity and risk management.
Personal attributes:
* Comfortable in start-up environment: ongoing change in plans; lack
of support staff; need for self-management via constant dialogue;
etc.
Education/experience:
* Bachelors Degree in technical field from accredited university.
* 3 months work experience in technical area
* We are prepared to support database training if sufficient SA
experience is demonstrated.

If you want to do kernel tweaking, you might be bored here.
If you're a Windows person with no *nix server experience, you won't
be a good fit.
