One of the many reasons I'll never (by choice) have kids, is that I 
don't want to get stuck in some job where I am completely miserable, 
solely because I have 4 mouths to feed.  But that's just my choice.  
Yours being to take the chance of being pigeon-holed in that position is 
no less valid, it's just a matter of priority.  However, I think we're 
coming from two different places here.

To even the field, if you had to take a 200k/year position you hated vs 
a 100k/year position you loved, which would you choose?  (Assuming 100k 
is more than enough to adequately support you & your family.)
