Since the YMCA site and the Library link indicate different start times, I presume being completely seated by 6:30pm won't hurt.
To get there, take Metro North from Grand Central to Greenwich. The ride is about 1 hour; tickets are about $10-16 with tax:

Here's a map from the Metro North Greenwich stop to the library. Seems like it's within walking distance.:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=1+Railroad+Avenue,+Greenwich,+CT,+06830-6301+&daddr=101+W+Putnam+Ave,+Greenwich,+CT+06830&ie=UTF8&z=16&ll=41.025337,-73.624556&spn=0.008693,0.016994&om=1
I'm thinking that to be in CT and walking to the library not much later than 4:00pm should get good timing and provide a decent choice of seating. It'll probably be cold, so dress appropriately (the train is unforgiving)
Drop me a line privately if your interesting in joining me or you can call them and confirm for yourself.
