[nylug-talk] Certs and such....

Dude -

After having been on both sides of the fence,
here is some advice:

First, there are a lot of jobs leaving NYC mostly
in the brokerage houses where I used to work.
There are also some being created, but not with the
same salary.

Second, there will be ups & downs in the market.
Being "specialized" may get you more money; however,
you may end up "niched" into something that dies
off.

Third, braintree has a testing facitility that
people recruit off of. Check the net.

Fourth, check the hospitals, schools, government
sites. They often don't post on the net.

Fifth, my background: I helped build three trading
floors, Unix SA (Solaris/Linux), DBA
(Oracle/Sybase/MySQL), Security(GSEC), manager(15+
years), dot-bomb, dot-com(30,000+ user
base/IM/portal).
I won't even get into the perl, expect, DNS, postfix,
etc. Oh yea, BA(3 years), MS/IS(1 year).

Sixth, I think that the market will tank again within
the next six months. There are usually "windows" for
looking. You are in one now until the middle of
November.

Have a good search.

- Chris
