Keyword searches are great to quickly find a list of possibles but I
think a lot of these recruiters dont go that one step further and check
the resume.
Having just spent 7 solid months looking myself I have recent experience
to draw upon.
A good example of this is getting an email out of the blue for Stratus
programmers. Im not a Stratus expert or programmer though I did work
with that server hardware when worked at AT&T and because it was
mentioned on my resume Im included in the batch email for "Stratus
programmers". Pretty dumb.
BTW, for people that are looking out there I would offer some advice:
take your time looking; dont settle for the first "hit"; do lots of
interviews (its good practice!); use all your options (meaning, dont
just rely on the job sites - check out job fairs and hiring events); if
you think the salary is low then (politely) ask for a better offer or
move on (it helps if you know the salary ranges so find those out
first); use the various search agents on the job sites; check the emails
you get first thing; getting a job is a job in itself so expect to work
really hard.
(BTW, in my case, I handed in my resignation last week since I have
finally gotten a fantastic offer, with a major corp, in a more senior
position and you can't beat the commute - half a block from home ;-)
