I don't recall SourceForge having a "Projects Seeking Help" section, but
 they probably should.  When looking to help a project, it's important
to remember code isn't the whole story.  Lots of projects gather little
interest for lack of adequate documentation and user support.  One other
thing I see solicited from time to time are testers who know what
they're looking at when something blows up.

Whether you're going to write code or do something else, generally the
places to start are with the stuff you're using now.  Submit a patch
that scratches that itch you've had about something you use.  Send an
e-mail or post to their forum offering your services.  And remember that
writing code is only part of what makes a community project viable.
