[nylug-talk] BOFH needed to help spec out new hosting solution

I tried posting this to the job's board but preview just hung and hung so
I'm just sending it to the list. Feel free to re-distribute.

------------snip------------------

eFashion Solutions provides a turnkey ecommerce platform for the retail
apparel industry. Our clients include DKNY, RocaWear, BabyPhat, Judith
Lieber and many many others (about 28 in all.)

Our sites are hosted on RHEL. Our current stack is Apache2, MySQL 4 and
PHP4. We're migrating, gradually, to MySQL 5 and PHP5.

We use Akamai as our CDN.

We need a SERIOUS BOFH who can write, do research and present findings.

We currently run everything on a plethora of leased machines (firewalls,
load balancers, webservers, database servers, etc.) at Rackspace.

Our hosting costs, both at Rackspace and at Akamai are getting rather steep.

We know we'd like to migrate from the setup we have now to something where
there's SAN storage on the backend, a cluster for our MySQL databases and a
cluster for webserving...

We need someone who can:

Look at our traffic, it's growth pattern, etc. and determine HOW MUCH SAN
space we need, HOW MANY DB servers and what type of DB servers we need, HOW
MANY webserevers and what type of webservers we need...

We need to have a configuration that looks one way from mid-January to
mid-October and is capable of handling twice the traffic from mid-October
through mid-January.

It always needs to have 20% - 25% headroom for the worst spike on the worst
day...

We need someone who can investigate what it would cost to re-jigger our
platform at Rackspace, vs. the cost of doing this at other hosted facilities
and compare those with the costs of going colo --- specifying, pricing,
buying and setting up equipment, establishing a relationship or
relationships with ISPs.. figuring out how things are going to be monitored,
etc...

Ultimately, we require a highly skilled resource to do the due diligence on
first vetting what it is we really need in terms of a new serving/hosting
architecture and then price out various hosted and colo scenarios, talk to
references, etc. and help make the decision on where we go from here and how
we orchestrate that transition.

Hopefully, that's enough information for some highly skilled individual to
send me a proposal.

I would prefer someone in the NY area but it's not a showstopper if you're
not.

Thanks!

Joshua
