[nylug-talk] road-runner + linuxOnly + wireless AP

Good afternoon,
I use RR (have had it for 3 years+ and love it). While my network
is not wireless , I have 2 'puters: one homebuilt Linux box and one Windoze
(XP). I use a router. While it is true that RR won't give you any advice
on Linux-related connection issues, and (the few times I had connection
problems), they whined about me not having the modem connected directly into
my windoze box and about me not having installed their proprietary software
on that box (not needed), I've had only rare problems, and all but one
turned out to be more of a temporary network issue. Only time I really had
trouble that came from inside my apartment, was caused by one of my coax
connectors (at the splitter) becoming slightly loose; something I fixed
myself after the RR tech told me (on the phone) that the problem was in my
apartment.
As for the modem lights, (if you have the oval-shaped type with 5 lights),
when everything is working fine, you should have the top two lit steady, one
blinking rapidly, one off, then the bottom lit steady. If you see only two
lights (1st and 4th) lit steady, you have a problem. That 4th (from the
top) light should only be lit when the modem is POSTing. Faye Barth
