I didn't get as far as to require the DNS. I tried ping of a numeric IP.
I'm not getting an IP. I've had similar situations on another home network
where it seemed that the router got fixated on supplying an IP only to one
specific PC. When substituting the PC with another, it just refused to
assign an IP until it was turned off for 10 minutes first. The cable modem
appears to be doing the same, but it is not responding to being reset.
