Actually, this is an interesting idea, because it offers you a lot of
options about how to do your archiving, and when (keep a n-way mirror,
break x number of the mirrors on a rotating schedule, for example).
Also, backups are all about restoring to a point in time, not just
restoring "the file" which could be too old or too new to do what it's
supposed to if it was broken at some point.
Look into rdiff-backup and similar programs for something like a more
flexible backup solution than rsync:
