[nylug-talk] Damian Conway Public Class: Perl Advanced Module
Development Techniques: Sat July 8 NYC

Normally, I stay out of these discussions, although I've been
reading this list for almost six years now. IMO, Damian
Conway's seminar is appropriate for the NYLUG-TALK list.
I know personally that it is not easy for the main perl
developers and gurus (and Damian is high up on that list) to
make a living. The product which they create and maintain
-- perl -- is open source, and free. But, there are at
least 10 full time maintainers who keep up the incredible
work, including bugfixes, back-porting perl 6 features,
perl 6, parrot, etc.
Damian, I suspect, subsidizes his perl developer work by
giving seminars. Yes, they are costly. I have never attended
one, and regre that I can not get to this one. Juding from
the opinion of Jim Keenan, which I value, you will find
this a high quality seminar.
I've posted to this list many times about NYSIA Wireless
meetings, for which non-members had to come up with a $20
entrance fee. No one suggested it was "SPAM". I think you
are way off base on this. I suspect that just about
everyone who uses Linux also uses, or bumps into, perl at
some time, and might benefit from Damian's seminar.
Of course, if you don't want to receive these notices, you
could just unsucbscribe. I hope you don't. You also might
consider a contribution to the Perl Foundation.

Alex,
Stuff you opinion. I'll not respond to you again. I think your
response vulgar and inappropriate. A free course -- fine --- a for fee
course -- its very questionable.
