Sometimes biting the bullet does help. I've decided to try the 'beta'
1021.006 firmware for my mobo (released by ASUS about one year ago and
still in beta) and it introduced ACPI 2.0 support in BIOS. Turning the
latter on cured all my lock-up woes. :-)
