  System Admin/Data Center Operations Engineer is responsible for the
  technical support of data center assets for Our clients’s co-location
  facility in New York City.

  Responsibilities include:
  • Support the administration, monitoring, backup/recovery, problem
    determination and resolution (break/fix), and general technical
    support, configuration and maintenance of all data center systems
    such as: Servers, SAN Storage, NAS Storage, Tape Back-up Systems,
    Operational Tools and similar systems, in coordination with the West
    Coast based Operations team.
  • Support system level administrative duties as defined by Home Office
    functional organization to tune, troubleshoot, deploy and maintain
    various Linux, UNIX (Solaris) and Windows based systems.
  • Manage tasks using various industry standard tools (Jumpstart,
    Kickstart, LDAP). • Perform Unix installation and configuration and
    troubleshoot server OS and hardware issues
  • Monitor, report and address capacity planning and load balancing
    issues.
  • Provide backup, restore, and disaster recovery planning and
    deployment utilizing industry standard toolsets.
  • Configure servers for high availability utilizing Veritas solutions.
  • Ensure continuous improvement through root cause analysis of any
    failures in the storage environment.
  • Deploy storage solutions to support capacity increases or new
    designs provided by Systems Engineering.
  • Implement standard new storage technologies (e.g. fiber switches,
    disk arrays, archiving tools, backup/restore platforms).
  • Manage Storage environment (e.g. tape, routers, switches, misc. SAN
    appliances, robots, etc)
  • Monitor, maintain and update patches as scheduled.
  • Maintain high level of availability and support in accordance with
    SLA's
  • Tune the system for effective support of production/live web server
    platforms.
  • Administer system for advanced account maintenance, file systems
    creation, and patch management.
  • Write technical documentation related to UNIX standards,
    installation procedures, and support scripts for SDC personnel.
  • Works in conjunction with remote Operations teams to provide
    detection and recovery of system outages, problems, and faults.
  • Liaise closely with the remote Network Operations Center and other
    Technology groups.
  • Performs escalation consistent with established procedure and in
    order to quickly resolve computer related problems. Adheres to
    pre-defined SLAs.
  • Ensure security of the data center through proactive monitoring,
    maintenance and upgrades of security patches, anti-virus software,
    etc.
  • Performs asset management and logistics consistent with defined
    procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that trouble tickets, daily reports, logs
    and changes are completed.
  • Assists or performs individually changes to data center computer
    systems/networks.
  • Implement and ensure proper utilization and documentation of
    standard tools, technologies and processes for Operations
    management.
  • Perform the required tape media maintenance: data collection, data
    retention, tape library/tape media and file maintenance, inventory,
    and off-site vaulting.
  • Implement storage and network solutions for secure and reliable
    management of data center systems.
  • Installation of applications and other software.
  • Participates in the capacity planning and development of DC services
    and processes.

# Required Skills:
  • Experience working in an organization running large applications,
    with a 100% uptime requirement.
  • Self sufficiency is paramount, exhibiting the ability and competency
    to support a field/regional office day-to-day requirement while
    being accountable to a larger functional organization located in
    Brisbane, CA.
  • In depth knowledge of how web services work.
  • Proven experience in UNIX system administration, 5+ years.
  • Perl programming at an advanced level (references, object oriented
    Perl); ability to use Perl to automate routine tasks.
  • Proven leadership / technical troubleshooting abilities.
  • An understanding of 404 compliance.
  • Strong hardware and software diagnostics skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to produce
    written documentation for a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Adaptability to work quickly and change directions as priorities
    change.
  • Self starting and highly motivated.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take on new responsibilities.
  • Plus Criteria: Significant build/release experience; large scale
    storage experience (NAS / SAN, HSM, backups); security experience
    (firewall, IDS, tripwire type tools); operational Java experience;
    Oracle experience; application diagnostic/development experience
    (gdb, purify / quantify, truss, etc.). 3-5 years experience in
    operations supporting servers and data centers.
  • Experience desired with the following: SUN, Hitachi, Netapp, Cisco,
    dual Xeon 1U systems, DELL.
  • 2-5 years experience in SQL/T-SQL, Perl and Unix Shell programming,
    and computer networking a big plus.
  • Broad understanding and application of I/S theory and principles as
    they relate to job function.
  • Works effectively with other Operations personnel, both local and
    remote, towards shared project goals.
