# Title: Senior Linux System Administrator

# Salary: Commensurate With Experience

# Description: Senior Linux System Administrator Right Media LLC, an
interactive media marketing firm, operates a high-performance
ad-serving software application on an array of Linux servers. The
Senior SysAdmin will maintain and enhance the infrastructure to
automatically install Linux and various applications and libraries on
new servers; maintain and monitor the network for problems; assist the
development team with tuning the servers and the application for
optimal performance; and perform application upgrades to online
servers. The SysAdmin will also lead the build-out of new colocated
server arrays. The senior systems admin will lead the entire Linux
implementation at Right Media. Formulating the vision, and mapping out
its execution will all be part of the responsibilities.

  Qualifications:
   - Massive Linux experience managing multiple servers on complex
networks using automated, free, open-source tools such as Nagios.
   - Linux system administration
   - comfortable with compiler flags, kernel modules, kernel 2.6, etc.
   - Strong Perl and shell scripting
   - Strong Apache skills, especially being able to debug problems with
     php and mods
   - Security: firewalls, intrusion detection, auditing, etc.
   - Networking: switches, routers, DNS, firewalls, load balancers,
ethernet bonding, link aggregation, tagged VLANs, spanning trees,
     SNMP monitoring, etc.
   - hardware: BIOS settings, hardware RAID arrays, etc. For bonus
points, the SysAdmin will know SQL and MySQL inside and out, and
have experience indexing tables and backing up live databases.

  Typical day:
   - 9a: Check server logs, disk space, memory usage, all the usual jazz
   - make sure systems are running smoothly. Maybe write a quick script
to check this automatically and dump an alert to a Blackberry to
     save time tomorrow.
   - 10a: Compile the latest kernel and run a performance test to see if
     it's any faster
   - 1p: Scan mailing lists and newsgroups for possible patches and bug
     fixes
   - 2p: Receive alert that a system is down. Diagnose the problem, hot
swap a hard drive, do nails.
   - 3p: Meet with development team to discuss a performance problem
   - 4p: Help port application to 64-bit (x86-64) architecture to do a
     price/performance bakeoff
