[nylug-talk] Dead hard drive

It's not great news, but I have a tool that I purchased and have used it on USB external drives (250GB, 300GB), USB thumbnail drives and

The 'not great' part is the price. I believe I paid $495 for Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional.

They offer technical support if you need it, but the pricing was too high for the 70GB of multimedia project files that I needed to get off. Just to send it there, and get it checked out, it appears it would be take weeks and I didn't have that time (and the money - I estimated I could be in the hole for $5,000).

So I went with the software, and am very glad I did.

I've used it to help myself on several forensic projects and was very pleased with the program's ability to give me different options to choose from (sometimes, I just wanted my 50,000 jpegs, sometimes, I needed to recover the disk files so I could restore the computer).
