I understand that most people on nylug probably have as little to do with  
windows as they can, and even fewer care about desktops, but I think  
desktops are important.  One of the reasons I do my work on Linux is  
because the Enlightenment project makes my life easier.  It's not the only  
reason, but it's a big one.

Today I saw what the future of desktops are going to be:

I'm wondering if anyone knows of an Open Source initiative that competes  
with this.  Personally, I believe that such things make a very big  
difference in whether we'll ever dominate on the desktop.  I know Sun was  
working on a very ugly 3D desktop ( I thought it was unwieldy ).  I'm  
wondering if there is any other project which is as .. well .. *tight* as  
this one is.  If there isn't, someone better start something soon.

I mean think about it.  If Linux had something like this, it wouldn't be a  
killer app, but it would show that the Open Source community is taking the  
initiative rather than just copying MS.
