Yes.

Sometimes, it depends on what CPU you're comparing it to (i.e. you can
decide whether 2 equally priced cpu's are equal, or 2 cpu's with the
same ghz are equal, or other potential choices).

For fc5 you're not going to have an issue. the amd64 chips have been
on the market for 2 years now. You've only got the typical
bleeding-edge issues if you buy on the bleeding edgel.

Sorry, can't help you here, my only 64-bit home systems are laptops at
this point.
